Paycheck Garnishment Calculator
Multi-state compliance engine • Title III CCPA (15 U.S.C. § 1673)
Statutory Wage Withholding Audit
Evaluates statutory taxes, protected wage floors, and multi-state caps
How this garnishment calculator works
Choose a jurisdiction, pay frequency and order type, then enter gross pay and the legally required taxes. The calculator subtracts those taxes to find disposable earnings, applies the federal or state cap for the order type, and shows the maximum amount that may be withheld, the protected floor, and the rule it applied.
What it covers
- Creditor / consumer judgments: the lesser of 25% (adjustable) of disposable earnings or the excess over 30× the minimum wage, scaled by pay frequency.
- Child support: 50% or 60% of disposable earnings, rising by 5 points when arrears are more than 12 weeks old.
- Federal student loans: administrative wage garnishment at 15% of disposable pay.
- Federal tax levy: an illustrative demo only. Use IRS Publication 1494 for real levies.
- State profiles for Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas.
Limits of the tool
The calculator handles one order at a time and uses simplified state profiles. It does not cover bankruptcy orders, hardship adjustments or conflicting orders. See federal limits by order type and how multiple garnishments are prioritized, and check legal updates for recent state changes. Results are for reference and are not legal advice.
